World Solar Challenge

TC Communications was the Major Communications Sponsor of the 2006 World Solar Challenge. We share a common ethos with the WSC in that we are committed to pushing the boundaries of technology. Whilst the Solar Cars and Green Fleet are pushing the envelope in their bids to develop alternative methods of fuel for transportation, we at TC are continually pushing the envelope in our bid to provide efficient, cost-effective methods of remote communications - especially in outback Australia.

Imagine packing a tiny terminal into your briefcase the next time you travel into outback Australia. Upon arrival, you take out your rbgan terminal and within minutes you have a broadband data connection, with speeds of up to 144kbit/s, in the middle of nowhere! Download emails, surf the web, send reports, access HQ...all at more than double the speed of dial-up Internet access.

TC Communications was committed to ensuring that all participants (and accredited media with the WSC) had access to dependable communications throughout the race. Our Remote Internet Cafe provided a free Internet service for the Solar Cars from Darwin through to Alice Springs. Furthermore, three competing teams and the Green Fleet team coordinator were provided with rbgan terminals for the duration of the race to enable them to stay in touch - and to keep us in touch by providing a daily web diary of their adventures!

At the end of the race day participants could send & receive emails and edit their web diaries all from TC's remote internet cafe via the RBGAN.
