Serial BGAN Adaptor is your answer... The Serial BGAN Adaptor provides a serial to IP converter for a legacy data terminal as well as intelligent control and management of the IP connection provided by a BGAN terminal. This provides a small, light weight and cost effective upgrade path from older Mini-M and similar technologies to the latest and most efficient BGAN IP services without having to incur the expense and possible technical risk of replace existing data loggers or data terminal currently in the field that do not natively support an IP interface.

The Serial BGAN Adaptor interprets dialling commands via it’s RS232C serial interface from the legacy data logging or communications device, and intelligentl uses these commands to control and manage service connectivity of a directly connected BGAN terminal. Launchpad functionality is NOT required by the data terminal – this intelligence is built into the BGAN Serial Adaptor.

The Serial BGAN Adaptor ensures that the connection is maintained as commanded by the connected terminal or data logger, and has the ability to recover from any lost link or ‘dark beam’ issues that might be incurred on the Inmarsat network.

Data sent by the terminal device is transported via the established satellite link to the terrestrial target address, with the user only paying for the data that is sent. Using either Internet or dedicated backhaul infrastructure, a large number of outstations can communicate via a central monitor station using a single common interface, reducing system complexity and further reducing operating costs.
